Healthy Snacks for the Best Super Bowl Watch Party Ever

By Charlie Wood

It’s that time of year again! Wouldn’t you know it, Tom Brady, 43 years young, is back again, facing off against the defending champ Kansas City Chiefs, led by wunderkind reigning MVP and video game-like QB Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LV (a fancy way of writing 55). Speaking of that Benjamin Button-like Tom guy, did you know this will be his 10th Super Bowl appearance, and after 21 years in the league he will have appeared in 47% of Super Bowls overall in that time? And with this being the 55th Super Bowl, he’ll have played in 18% of all Super Bowls ever? Talk about an overachiever! Anyway, enough about Tom...

The Super Bowl is around the corner (and marks the traditional beginning of the spring real estate market *wink wink*), and while you may not be hosting or attending a viewing party this year, watching the super bowl is still a great opportunity to make some yummy snacks for the pageantry taking place: an intersection of the pinnacle of American sports, TV commercials, and bloated halftime shows (don’t let us down, The Weeknd!). Instead of accentuating that bloat with unhealthy snacks, I’ve put together a list of yummy recipes to make for Sunday that won’t make you want to nap by the second quarter (I think even Giselle and Tom would approve). Whether you have an air fryer, are a vegetarian, are a serious cook, or like to do the bare minimum, we have you covered. There’s quite a variety here because, well, it's the spice of life.

Happy cooking! To the victor go the spoils—erm... leftovers!

"Andres Barrera briefly marinates chicken in herbs and cumin before skewering and grilling it; then he serves it with a cool chickpea puree and fiery harissa." (Food & Wine)

"A low carb mini cauliflower pizza bites recipe for both kids and adults! With 7 ingredients + toppings, these cauliflower muffins are customizable & easy!" (Wicked Spatula)

"The perfect football-party food, classic jalapeño poppers get a crispy upgrade in an air fryer. Cream cheese tempers the just-right hint of heat from the pepper and Buffalo sauce." (Eating Well)

"Kind of like cheesy nachos, but instead of chips, we’re substituting crisp sweet potatoes skins…so better!" (Half Baked Harvest)

"This recipe for spicy Buffalo cauliflower bites is a great vegetarian alternative to Buffalo wings. Roasted cauliflower stands in for chicken and provides more fiber and fewer calories." (Eating Well)

"Light the grill for crowd-pleasing, mini turkey burgers — because size doesn't always have to matter. Patty on water rolls and top with pepperoncini peppers, if desired." (MyRecipes)

"This meal-worthy Asian-style coleslaw recipe comes together in 30 minutes (or less) and is bursting with flavor. Uncooked millet gives this tri-cabbage slaw an unexpected crunch." (Forks Over Knives)

"In this easy guacamole recipe, musician Mraz prefers California Hass or Reed avocados because they are the creamiest. Adjust the heat, tang or other flavorings to suit your tastes." (Eating Well)

"Maybe it is all the extra flavor I added or maybe it is that homemade is always just so much better. I do not know, but what I do know is this stuff is good! Dip it with some veggies, yum. Dip it with a pita, yum. Dip it with cracker, yum. Smear it on a sandwich, probably genius!" (Half Baked Harvest)

"My favorite snack with a hot and flavorful twist - Spicy Popcorn - popped in chili oil and spiced with cumin and cayenne pepper." (Bake Your Day)
